What is the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame?
The Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame (AzWHF) is a statewide 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The AzWHF
was founded in 1980, by the Arizona Women’s Commission, the Tucson Women’s Commission, and the
Office of Governor Bruce Babbitt. It is the oldest organization in the state dedicated to
preserving and honoring accomplished Arizona women, both deceased and living.

Our mission is to honor, celebrate, and preserve the stories of exceptional Arizona women.
How Does the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame Fulfill Its Mission?
We seek nominations for living and deceased women to be inducted into the Arizona Women’s
Hall of Fame. They are leaders, innovators and role models who have shaped Arizona from their contributions to health, sports, education, arts and culture, or business. We hold induction
ceremonies to honor these women and share their stories with the public. We award tuition assistance scholarships annually to support an undergraduate and graduate student pursuing a degree in a museum program or history discipline with an emphasis on women.
Who serves on the Board of Directors?
The Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame Board of Directors is made up is made up of members who share a
commitment to honor and preserve the stories of Arizona women, especially those whose
accomplishments are not widely known. Board members’ backgrounds, expertise, and contacts provide
the tools needed to foster a forward-thinking organization. The AzWHF believes its Board of directors
should reflect the rich diversity of Arizona. Members serve three-year terms, with the possibility of
renewal for a second term.
What Is expected of a Board Member?
The AzWHF depends on the active participation of every Board member to fulfill the mission. Board
members are expected to actively serve and contribute their time, resources, contacts and expertise.
The Board meets monthly. Board members are expected to attend regular monthly meetings, donate personally to support the organization annually. Members serve on standing or ad hoc board committees which implement the duties and activities set forth above. Duties include participating in the governance of the board and assuring that the AzWHF meets its fiduciary duties as set forth in the bylaws, state and federal law.
